Mechanism of Depression

Depression like every feeling in our body is a reflection of our thoughts and beliefs. To successfully overcome it it’s important to understand the mechanism and true reasons of depression. In this article I will try to explain what causes depression and some ideas on how to cope with this condition.

Let’s start with the definition of depression. What is it really? Depression – is in fact always dissatisfaction with something. Whether it is lack of money or status, or failures in personal life. It is something we feel when we face something which disappoints us and which we can’t easily overcome.

How does depression appear? Well, as always, it’s all about survival. When we are born and are little children we all depend on our parents. They tell us what is right and what is wrong and we can’t argue with any of their instructions because they are our natural protectors and feeders. We listen carefully and follow everything they say to survive and get the best knowledge for our future life. We also listen to the society, teachers and other people who are surrounding us.

This is a natural process and there is nothing wrong with it except for one detail – it is not personalized. Everything we hear and learn is targeting either specific people or a specific layers of society – not us specifically. Thus it may either take or not take into account some of our features and abilities.

In the result most things we follow from our leanings work fine. But some of them – screw up. We try to fix it but fail – because sometimes we are just not naturally fit to something. We keep trying and trying and then get upset when fail again and again. Here the depression comes.

But when we struggle with it we actually don’t realize – and this is a key thing here – that some people get what we can’t do from the first attempt! And moreover – they don’t even try hard – it’s just sliding into their hands. Why does this happen? Personalization is the answer. They are just naturally fit into this things.

What we as people need to learn is to stop doing what is too hard for us which doesn’t give us enough credit. We need to realize that if we tried enough at some moment we need to say ‘stop’ and move on to another things. Ideally these should be the things where we are the kings – and get success there.

Also it’s important to be optimistic about any changes and initiatives. Personalization of survival by using own brain is always harder and risky (though it’s mostly protection mechanisms of our mind) and will face a lot of criticism from the parties which don’t fit it. However it’s you who will be living with this, not them and if you feel like it’s something worth trying – go ahead! The world will always be on your side.
