Our life is full of emotions. Sometimes they make us happy. Sometimes they make us sad and depressed. One of the bright examples for the last one is pain.
Millions of people in the world struggle with pain. It can be acute. It can be chronic. Or even mental. Strugglings make people use packs of pills, go to doctors and sometimes stay awake at night. The consequences of this disease is enormous.
But what if I tell you that pain especially chronic is the result of our own efforts to control it?
Our body consists of muscles. They can be big and strong like abdominal muscles. Or they can be really small like muscles in our head. We can feel them when we exercise or just use in everyday life.
Muscles are not just the instrument to weight lifts and perform physical activities. It is also a mechanism our brain is using to perform reactions to certain conditions and emotions in our mind.
For example let’s take fear. We feel it in our stomach or sometimes in our chest. Our body is shaking and we feel nausea. Brain gives a signal to our body to inject tones of adrenaline which constricts blood vessels and causes muscles to contract.
Now let’s take a headache. Why do we have a headache after a long day especially with lots of concentration? Our head muscles get tightened when we think thoroughly. If you stay in such condition for the whole day the muscles will get tired and will respond with pain.
There are a lot of other examples when simple thinking can cause different reactions in our body. Now let’s return to chronic pain.
Let’s say a person once had an incident with a part of their body. It could be a hand or an organ or something else. They will feel acute pain. They receive treatment and it lasts for some time. And the disease goes away. However pain doesn’t always go away.
Why does it happen? A person keeps thinking about it. This is what’s causing our brain to be constantly focused on the area. Focusing on the area as we discussed gets muscles tightened around it. And the person feels nerves squeezing which they treat as pain.
What are the solutions to fix it? One of the solution is to use tranquilizers or antidepressants which relax the whole body and muscles which actually neutralizes pain.
Another more healthy and permanent solution is to use spiritual practices and learn how to relax and change the focus. First thing to do is to believe in full recovery. Start think with optimism and consider yourself a healthy person. The body will react accordingly and will change the focus. Second thing is to change attention and stop thinking about the pain. This includes terminating all pills and procedures and starting spiritual practices like Yoga and sports.
By doing these simple things it’s possible to neutralize a lot of pain and struggles. Moreover it will give a lot of optimism in live and make it a little more bright and healthy. Isn’t it a real freedom?
